Planning a Kenyan Avocado Order
A productive avocado enquiry gives the exporter enough information to match the fruit, pack, timing, and compliance plan to the buyer's market.
01
Start with variety and maturity
State the variety you need—such as Hass—and the intended sales channel. Harvest maturity matters because avocado must be developed enough to ripen correctly after arrival while remaining firm enough for the planned journey.
Kenya's Agriculture and Food Authority notes that the right harvest stage depends on the variety, season, and growing region. Buyers should therefore ask how maturity is assessed for the offered lot rather than relying on appearance alone.
02
Specify size as a count
Avocado orders are commonly discussed by the number of fruits packed into a standard carton. Confirm the carton weight, acceptable count range, tolerance, and whether mixed counts are allowed. This avoids using general terms such as medium or large, which can be interpreted differently.
03
Share realistic volume and cadence
A trial shipment, a single commercial load, and a weekly program require different sourcing and packing plans. Give an estimated volume, preferred start date, frequency, and likely duration. The exporter can then discuss availability and whether the program fits the season.
04
Let the destination shape the plan
The destination affects transit time, packaging, labelling, plant-health requirements, and the maturity window required on arrival. Name the country, entry point, transport preference, and expected delivery terms at the start of the conversation.
KEPHIS states that exporters should obtain the importing country's plant-health requirements and that export consignments are inspected for conformity before phytosanitary certification. These requirements should be confirmed for every destination and shipment.
05
Send a complete first enquiry
A concise first message can include the variety, count range, carton weight, total volume, destination, preferred shipping window, transport method, and required certificates. Add photos or an agreed specification if presentation details are important.
